  • Library 101: Autumnal Equinox

    We have been enjoying some glorious weather recently, days warm enough for sandals and shorts and nights cool enough to snuggle under a blanket. But with the arrival of the autumnal equinox all this good weather will slowly fade away. This year the autumnal equinox occurred on September 23rd at 4:31 AM (ET) according to the online Old Farmer’s Almanac. The word “equinox” derives from the Latin, meaning equal night. As the sun crosses the equator day and night are equal for everyone in the world. Because of the slight wobbling of the earth as it rotates around the sun, the exact timing of the equinox varies slightly from year to year. Continue Reading

  • Library 101: Welcome, News, and Events

    The staff of Kelly Library and IT sends out a big welcome to our new and returning students, faculty, and staff. There are lots of activities on campus finishing up as the semester starts. The Performing Arts building is just about completed; new access roads and parking lots are available. The Doctorate of Physical Therapy program has started and the library has opened its first branch on the Marion campus. IT has increased the bandwidth for the campus which, when the fine-tuning is done, will greatly improve access to the internet. The library has a redesigned library catalog, Interlibrary Loan webpage, and new databases for the new programs in the health sciences. The new resources, which are available to everyone, include Acland’s Video Atlas of Human Anatomy, CINAHL with Full Text, Cochrane Library, and SPORTDiscus. Continue Reading
